Well what a funny day it was!
The night before today I had taken my car back home to Box Hill from Andrew. Some of you guys might know that I never drive to work in my car - too expensive (petrol, traffic, parking).
Somehow I had missed my alarm this morning and woke up an hour late, 8:50am!!! So funnily enough this made me contemplate driving to work instead. Doesn't make sense because taking a train is still faster than driving to work during peak hour. But anyway, something, or somebody, whispered into my ears to drive my car to work anyway. So I did.
It was a nice drive to work actually, didn't take too long as the traffic was dying down by the time I had left my house. I had reached the carpark at about 9:35am before I received a call from Andrew telling me he left his store keys in my car!!! He wasn't able to open the store up for business.
He was quite worried that I had taken the train to work, and rightfully so, this was the first time that I had driven this car into the CBD for work, EVER! 99 out of 100 times I would have caught the train. What if, in this case, I did catch a train, what would of happened? Either he would of had to pick up my house keys from work (in the city) and drive to Box Hill to get the store keys, or keep the store shut for that day. I guess theives has proven recently that breaking a hole in the store wall is not out of the question... But anyway, all I can say is "Thank God!". Somebody up there is definitely watching over this fella...
Anyway, it does not end there!
It was great, we knew there was a purpose for me driving my car to the city. Must have been God's sense of humour or something as it was pretty funny... funny for me until I got to the car park at 6:40pm only to realise it closed at 6pm! Gates were closed shut. There were signs saying when the gates closed but obviously I didn't read it. There were also signs saying that I could call this particular number to open the gates up for me, but at a cost, $60!!! $60 is not money I have at the moment with my anniversary with Eelaine coming up the next day (HAPPY ANNIVERSARY EELAINE!!!!), and my brother's wedding a fortnight after that.
So what to do? I called my colleague who recommended me this carpark. He told me to try the front entrance, so I did. The revolving doors weren't spinning, oh no, this wasn't going to work. The front entrance was also closed.
So as I was walking hopelessly back to the back carpark entrance I was thinking to myself, "why does Andrew's blessing have to come at my expense?". Was a bit sad.
So when I got to the rear entrance I was just about call the fella to open the gate for me (was going to cost me $60), but quite amazingly, somebody who lives in that building was making their way into the carpark with their special carpark pass! At the time I did not think this was possible, so I was quite shocked to see somebody get in there with the gates previously closed! So of course, I made my way in there by sneaking in after the car.
So finally! I am sitting in my car! What a great feeling, how liberating! But little did I know that it wasn't going to end here.
I called my colleague to celebrate, but as I did, I realised that the carpark exit was also shut and I was not able to get out! Oh dear... my joy once again turned into bitter disappointment. But as I was drowning in my sorrows I spotted a headlight from a distance in my rear view mirror. YES! Somebody was on their way out of the carpark! AMAZINGLY this was also great timing. So I followed this fella out of the carpark and I WAS FREE! With $60 in my pocket!!! It felt like I had escaped from a prison, not that I know how it feels to break out of a prison, but I could imagine that it would have felt somewhat similar.
So that was the end of that story. What a great story. Thank God man.
On a different topic altogether, Eelaine and I were just about to order our food from Bismi on Sydney Rd before bumping into Edwin, Elison, Jing, Huei Weun, and Sean. What a coincidence. I'm sure those guys were just checking up on us... :)
